No. 6 KU Beats Texas Tech 60-46

LUBBOCK, Texas ? After struggling early in their first conference road game, the sixth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks pulled away to beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 60-46 on Saturday afternoon at United Spirit Arena.

Texas Tech (8-6, 1-2 Big 12) took a 10-9 lead on jumper by Jamal Williams, Jr. with 13:47 to play in the first half. They kept the game within reach by dominating the boards 16-8 early on. Although they never trailed by more seven in the half, they wouldn?t get the lead back.

Kansas (14-1, 2-0 Big 12) didn?t shoot well in the first half, as they went just 5-18 from the field. They saw plenty of action at the free throw line however, where they went 16-18. Tech shot just 28% in the first half and committed 13 turnovers to KU?s seven. The Jayhawks led 27-25 at halftime.

The Jayhawks opened up the second half with a 14-3 run and never looked back. KU finished 46% from the field, and 30% from beyond the arc.

The Red Raiders outrebounded the Hawks 26-25, but shot just 35% from the field. Williams, Jr. led the Raiders in scoring with 11 points. Junior forward Dejan Kravic added nine points and eight rebounds.

KU had four players score in double figures. Senior forward Kevin Young added 14 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Senior guard Travis Releford had 12 points and three steals. Senior center Jeff Withey finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Redshirt freshman Ben McLemore had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

Kansas will host the Baylor Bears on Monday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
